Caring For Your Marco Polo Jewelry

Wearing Your Marco Polo Jewelry

Perfumes, hairsprays, lotions and cosmetics can potentially tarnish silver. Don't wear your jewelry in the shower, tub, sauna or pool, and put on your beautiful Marco Polo jewelry after you are done dressing and making-up.

Cleaning Your Silver Marco Polo Jewelry

Avoid using buffing cloths, paste polishes or chemical cleaning solutions other than that described below. Jewelry buffing cloths can remove the protective anti-tarnish coating from the silver heishi beads, and should not be used on Marco Polo jewelry.

Tarnished silver Marco Polo jewelry can usually be restored to its natural beauty by simple cleaning. Place your silver Marco Polo jewelry in an aluminum pan, or in a glass pan lined with aluminum foil. Add a tablespoonful of baking soda, fill with hot water but not boiling water, stir to dissolve the baking soda, and immerse your jewelry.

Cleaning may occur immediately, or it may take a few minutes. Bubbling may occur while cleaning is progressing; this is normal, and not a cause for concern. The hot solution will remove skin oils that can accelerate tarnishing. Be sure to dry cleaned jewelry well before placing it in storage. Heavy tarnish may not be completely removed by this cleaning method, which should not be used on antiqued silver.

Cleaning Your Vermeil Marco Polo Jewelry

In most cases, tarnished Marco Polo jewelry can be restored to its natural beauty by simple cleaning. Avoid using jewelry buffing cloths, paste polishes or chemical cleaning solutions other than that described below. Buffing cloths are mildly abrasive, and can remove gold from the vermeil.

Gentle cleaning in a warm bath of mild detergent usually suffices to clean vermeil jewelry. If tarnish has developed, place your Marco Polo jewelry in an aluminum pan, or in a glass pan lined with aluminum foil. Add a tablespoonful of baking soda, fill with hot but not boiling water, stir to dissolve the baking soda, and immerse your jewelry.

Storing Your Marco Polo Jewelry

To prevent tarnish, we suggest that you store your Marco Polo jewelry in a closed (non-PVC) zip-seal plastic bag, with an anti-tarnish tab in the bag. Tabs are effective for 3-6 months, after which they should be replaced for continuing protection.
